Welcome! This website is rich in resources for teaching and learning about Montana history. We invite you to orient yourself by taking a guided tour of our resources. Complete Part 1 and Part 2 to earn one OPI Renewal Unit. (Note: We have redesigned our website. The content is all still here, but the site looks a little different now than it does in this training).
Much of the material on this site has been posted as Pdf files, which can be viewed and printed with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat reader and would like to download it click here.
Montana: Stories of the Land is available an audiobook for students with learning disabilities through Learning Ally. Links to audio recordings of every chapter of Montana: Stories of the Land are now also available on the MTHS YouTube channel.
The accordian menus on the left provide access to the chapter pages. On each chapter page you will find a pdf file of the chapter text and two worksheets that focus on specific skills (reading maps, interpreting data, creating graphs, etc.) while reinforcing content covered in the text. Most chapters also contain a section titled Learning from Historical Documents, with links to relevant primary sources, document analysis worksheets, and background information.
On each chapter page, look for For Educators: Resources. Follow that link for recommended lesson plans, resources, videos, links to tests and answer keys, and information about alignment to content standards and the Essential Understandings Regarding Montana Indians.
The "Useful Links" dropdown includes links to printable maps, a glossary, useful sites for student research, and more.
Find links to the tests (including self-grading Google tests) and answer keys at the bottom of each chapter's Educator Resources page.
The tests and answer keys (as well as the worksheets) are also available in a spiral bound book, available to purchase for $45 plus shipping. This booklet is also available for free download.
All tests and answer keys are password protected.
To receive an order form for the printed book or the password to download the online tests and answer keys, contact Martha Kohl (mkohl@mt.gov) or Melissa Hibbard (Melissa.Hibbard@mt.gov) with your name, your school name, and your principal's name.
