The Research Center of the Montana
Historical Society holds the official records of the Montana Legislature,
including minutes of committee hearings and bills.

Fees & Payment
If you are unable to visit our Research Center to conduct your own research, our staff will answer general research questions for a fee. Legislative History requests cost $25.00 which includes one hour of research and up to 10 photocopies. We charge $25.00 per Bill. After the first hour of research the patron will be charged $20.00 per hour and .35 cents for each additional copy. Requests may take up to 15-20 days to complete. Expedited requests can be submitted; however they are double the regular charge for each Bill. Staff still require 10 days to complete rush orders. Before submitting an expedited request, please speak to a member of the MHS Research staff at (406) 444-2681 to ensure staff time is available.Defining Your Search
The specific information you need us to find (i.e. Montana Code Annotated citation or bill number) and any sources you require us to search must be clearly defined in your request. Vague or otherwise poorly defined requests cannot be researched and will be returned!Please note that the Montana Legislature website has digital audio recordings and scanned minutes / minute logs and exhibits for committee hearings from 1999-Present.

Submitting Your Request
You can submit your request online and pay with a credit card, or send your request by mail along with a check made payable to "Montana Historical Society Research Center" (see mailing address printed on form).Fulfillment
