front cover: Montana The Magazine of Western History, Summer 2006

Cover Art Description:

With this issue, we are debuting some changes to the magazine. We hope you will find the larger print easier to read and you will enjoy the fresh new look. You'll find that the footnotes have changed to endnotes and moved to the back of the magazine. It was a hard decision, but a necessary one, since it will keep the cost of the magazine down. If you would like to send us your comments about the magazine, please address them to Editor, P.O. Box 201201, Helena, MT 59620-1201 or e-mail mhspublications@mt.gov.

The cover image Pribiloff Island View (hand-tinted lithograph, Voyage pittoresque autour du monde . . . , Paris, 1822), by Louis Choris, the official artist on Otto von Kotzebue's 1815 -1818 Russian expedition around the world, shows an Aleut seal hunter approaching his prey with the expedition's ship Riurik in the background.
