Montana - A Buried History

"Montana - A Buried History" by James Todd.
Acrylic on masonite, 1976, 48" high by 97" wide.
Montana Historical Society, Gift of the Montana Federation of Teachers in memory of Perry Melton
According to artist Jim Todd, the painting "concentrates largely upon...the major events and
transitions in the labor and corporate history of the state. My interpretation of this
history is partisan and selective, and does not pretend to be a complete or detached
overview. Rather, I attempt to symoblize events and connections, which, I believe, are
frequently ignored and sometimes even repressed.... The purpose of the painting is to
stimulate discussion of our state's labor history and pay attention to matters of our past
which are frequently ignored..."
